What is Gibraltar?
Gibraltar consists of three main parts that work together to provide your team with
an end-to-end logging infrastructure:
- The Gibraltar Agent is deployed with your application. It records configuration
and usage data from your application and sends it to you.
- The Gibraltar Analyst is the program you run to analyze and manage the data.
- The Gibraltar Hub is a web service that connects Agents with Analysts so your team
can effortless collect and analyze thousands of logs.
Gibraltar Agent
The Gibraltar Agent includes a number of Listener components that monitor system
activity. The Agent safely and efficiently records information to session files
and automatically removes out-date session files that exceed your configuration
settings for maximum age, maximum disk, or minimum free space.
If you are using Gibraltar with a desktop application, the Live Viewer control allows
you to monitor your application in real-time. It pops up whenever a configurable
hotkey is pressed or, if you prefer, you can host it on your own form.
The Packager can be run within your application or as a stand-alone utility to gather
and transmit relevant session files.
The Gibraltar Agent is Free. No purchase is required to use it, and
you may redistribute it with your application without charge. This includes the
Live Viewer and Gibraltar Packager utility.
Gibraltar Analyst
The Gibraltar Analyst lets you analyze and manage session data. As a convenience
to developers and testers, session files from applications run on the same computer
are automatically merged to the Local Files Repository. Packages can be viewed
directly and sessions copied to the User Repository as desired.
The Analysis Engine automatically indexes session data in the background to put
important details at your fingertips in the Repository Viewer. For example,
every unique error is identified so that you can see what errors are occurring most
frequently. The Analyst also includes a powerful Report Engine that produces
print-ready reports summarizing application health.
The Session Viewer drills down into the details of a single session. Integrated
views of grids, graphs and charts with powerful highlighting and filtering capabilities
make it easy to identify the root cause of problems.
Gibraltar Hub
Gibraltar Hub is a web service that connects Agents with Analysts. The Hub
listens for Agents to send logs via email or our RESTful web API. A second RESTful
web API allows Analysts to subscribe to a feed of logs and subsequently receive
new data automatically in the background.
