VistaDB consists of a redistributable database engine, Visual Studio integration, tools for data management, documentation, sample code and our fanatical technical support. In addition, VistaDB works with various ORMs and other third party tools.
The VistaDB engine is a small managed assembly you redistribute royalty-free with your applications. It is a fully complaint ADO.NET 2 data provider supporting all versions of the .NET Framework from 4.5 going back to .NET 2.0 SP1. VistaDB is highly compatible with T-SQL syntax including support for views, stored procedures, and full-text search.
VistaDB integrates tightly with Microsoft Visual Studio 2013, 2012 and 2010 allowing you to create databases and alter their schema, indexes and more directly inside Visual Studio. Native support for Server Explorer lets you interact with VistaDB databases just as you would Microsoft SQL Server, including visual query creation inside the Visual Studio IDE.
VistaDB supports Database-First integration with Entity Framework (EF6, EF5 and EF4). If you prefer Model-First development, you can reference a SQL Server database in Visual Studio then use the VistaDB Data Migration Wizard to create the corresponding VistaDB database. At run-time, just update your connection string to reference VistaDB.
Data Builder is a powerful yet easy-to-use application that lets you visually create and manage VistaDB databases. You can create, modify TSQL stored procedures, delete tables, indexes, triggers, constraints, columns, set database encryption, and more. Data Builder also lets you run interactive SQL commands directly on your data.
The Data Migration Wizard makes it easy to migrate existing schema and data from SQL Server, SQL Server CE, or Microsoft Access (MDB and ACCDB) to VistaDB's database format. Full migration of most databases takes only a few minutes.
VistaDB is supported by a rich ecosystem of third party tools including popular ORMs from DevExpress, Telerik, Mindscape, and others.
